Island Park - Day 5

We got up early, cleaned the cabin, and headed out. Everyone else went to church but we needed to get back so Josh could get to his meetings and get his work done so we headed out. Our new Tahoe doesn't have any bars on top, so I bought some a few months ago and a neighbor helped me install them. I've always worried about them so I am constantly checking and pulling on them to make sure they are secure. We have a cargo bag that we strap on to the top when we go out of town and we've used them a couple of times without a problem. Well this trip was no different and I was concerned about them the whole drive up to Island Park. On our was home I was constantly looking in the mirror to make sure everything was ok. Well I believe it was divine intervention that I looked in the mirror at the exact moment that the bars flew off and our cargo bag and the bars went crashing down in the middle of the road on the 2 lane highway. I started yelling to Josh to pull over as I saw cars swerving so they didn't hit it. Blessing #2 was that we happened to be in an area where the median was pretty shallow with no barriers so we were able to turn around to the other side of the highway, travel back, and cross the median again (most of the highway wasn't like this.) Brayden and I ran into the street and dragged the cargo bag full of 7 duffle bags out of the street into the median. Miraculously no one hit the bag or crashed trying to avoid it. It's a massive bag. We had to shove all the duffle bags at the feet of the kids bc the back of the Tahoe was already full. Somehow we managed to fit everything in and got back on the road. We said a prayer of gratitude as we realized how many blessings we received during those 5-10 min. I think it took over an hour for me to stop shaking I was so rattled. Had I not seen it happen we would've had no idea and we would've lost all of our stuff. I try not to think about the experience bc it still brings me a lot of anxiety to think of all the worst case scenarios that could've happened. We are grateful that all the cars behind us are safe and nothing terrible happened.

Island Park - Day 4

This trip is going too fast! Today we headed to this little lake nearby and spent the day surfing, playing in the water, and hanging out on the beach. We all had SO much fun and the kids won't stop asking if we can buy a boat lol. We spent the evening hanging out again and couldn't have had a better day!

Island Park - Day 3

Today we got up early and headed to Yellowstone Park. We've never taken the kids and it was nice that it was so close to where we were staying (about 45 min). We were hoping to see animals but literally didn't see a single one. So that was disappointing. But we made it to Old Faithful and got to see it go off which was really cool. We also visited a few of the other hot pods that were beautiful and really neat to see. Brielle struggled towards the end bc she hasn't had a great reaction to the bug bites and one on her leg swelled up so much it was making it hard to walk. So we headed out of Yellowstone Park so we could find some benedryl to help her. We did some shopping in the little town, ate some yummy crepes, then headed back to the cabin. We had a spiritual evening all together then stayed up way too late hanging out and talking.

Island Park - Day 2

Today hung around the cabin for the morning then the guys went golfing. We all met up at the river to paddle board and canoe down it. We played missionary tag and had ice cream after getting out of the river and it was a lot of fun. We headed back to the cabin to shower and the adults headed to the Yellowstone Playhouse. It was a nice dinner and comedy show.  We were surprised by how good it was and it was a nice evening for the adults to spend time together. The kids had a blast back at the cabin. At one point they sent me a picture of Brielle's eyes as the pupils were different sizes. Weird. Of course I googled it and it said it's definitely not common and not a good thing so I ended up calling our on call eye doctor. Luckily we traced it back to the antihistamine cream she put on her arm before she put in her contacts. Apparently that can cause a pupil to dilate. Otherwise it would've been a neurological brain issue...so we were glad to have remembered the cream she used.
