Our final trip of the year! I can't believe we were so lucky to have had Josh win all 3 trips that they offered this year. It's been hard to keep up with life as I've felt SO behind the past couple of months. This trip was another one to Cancun...ironically this resort was about 5-10 min down the road from the one we stayed at in May. But this one was a lot smaller, adults only, and really expensive. The staff was incredible, the food was unbelievable, and our room was amazing.
Because it was a promotion at work, we went with all the others that won the trip. In all there were 15 couples. We all met at the airport, flew down together, then hung out at the Cancun airport for about 1.5 hrs waiting for one other person. He drove to Seattle to drop his son off at his mom's house then flew in from there. Unfortunately his flight was delayed so we all had to wait for him. We finally made it on the bus to head to our resort...Secrets at Akumal. We got there pretty late and we hadn't eaten dinner, so after dropping off our luggage we headed out to find food. The downside of having a smaller resort with REALLY nice food is that there isn't a buffet open all day. All but 2 restaurants were closed and you couldn't wear shorts or flip flops. It was also an hour wait. So after walking around the resort a bit we headed back to our room and ordered room service. It surprised us how good it was. We ate on our patio which had a swim out entrance.
After dinner we ventured out again to walk down the beach. It was beautiful, relaxing, and so nice to just walk and talk. While walking in the water I looked down and thought I saw something moving. Yep...it was a stingray inches from my feet. It was following right next to us and we couldn't believe it! It was just a small one but it was fun to see and we were glad I had my camera with me. It took off after we started following it. We decided we probably wouldn't be going in for any late night dips in the ocean on this trip like we did last time. After walking around we ended up back at our room to soak in our huge jacuzzi while we watched a show or two.
