Patriarchal Blessing/Mission Call

Brayden was coaching a basketball team at a practice when he got a text "Your mission call can be viewed at..." He couldn't believe it. His call came SO fast. He showed his buddy who asked him if he was going to open it or wait. Luckily Brayden knew I wouldn't be thrilled if he opened it without us so he sent me a screenshot, finished practice, and rushed home. This was all 1 hour before we were leaving to get his patriarchal blessing. So we decided to go get his blessing then the 3 of us could go to the temple to open his call. He didn't want to wait until the next night with friends.

Getting his patriarchal blessing was a very sacred and special experience. Once the patriarch found out Brayden just got his call he got emotional and ended up sharing stories with us that he normally doesn't share. He was a mission president years ago and has a special place in his heart for missionaries. And he hadn't ever given a missionary that had their unopened mission call their blessing. The spirit was strong and the experience was something we won't ever forget.

After the blessing we decided to go to the Jordan River Temple even though we knew the gates were closed bc it was a Monday. Brayden wanted to have Josh's dad there so we ran and picked him up and brought him with us. We planned on sitting in the church that is next to the temple, but when we got there the gate to the temple happened to be open so we were able to park in front of the temple for Brayden to open his call.

It was such a blessing for Brayden to open his call privately with us rather than in front of a crowd. Reading that he was going to Mexico was a tender moment shared between Josh and Brayden and I don't think they would've been able to have that had it been in front of all his friends. I'm grateful it worked out the way it did with his blessing and being at the temple. Sharing these private moments together will be something we always remember.
