Lake Powell

Oh Lake Powell. Where have you been the last 10 years of my life?! I have forgotten how much I love this place and everything about it. Josh has been working very hard doing financial planning on the side and we were invited to stay on the houseboat of one of the guys pretty high up in the company. And can I just say...this is how to do Lake Powell. This houseboat is the largest houseboat on Lake Powell and it didn't disappoint. It was an incredible experience and one we hope to experience again someday. Bc the houseboat is so big they keep it docked and rarely take it out of it's slip. So we would spend our days either there or out on the lake on the smaller boats. We even spent a couple of hours on Bryce's go fast boat (yes that's what they call them). I couldn't believe how quickly you could get down the lake on that thing.  We did a little exploring up a couple canyons that were breathtaking and so peaceful.

My back is still a mess so unfortunately I wasn't able to do much, and when I did go out on the boat I had to lay down at the back of the boat with my feet on the sun deck so that my spinal cord didn't compress with all the bumps. Sigh. I did manage to get up and surf a little bit. I knew that if I could quickly get up then I could handle the surfing without it hurting my back too bad. It took a few times to get up bc the boat driver was new at pulling surfers, but once we figured out we needed to shorten the rope a bunch I popped right up. I loved every second of it. It's the funnest thing I've done since January when my back exploded. I'm not able to kick my legs so the nightly swims were out of the question for me, but I was able to spend a lot of time talking with other people on the houseboat and really enjoyed getting to know them better

When we pulled up on the first day with Don to launch his boat they stopped everyone on the dock and made way for emergency vehicles. We sat for over an hour watching and waiting while the helicopter came but never took anyone away. Unfortunately as a guy was docking his boat he had a heart attack and after an hour of CPR they weren't able to get him back and he passed away while we were waiting. It was very somber and a reminder to enjoy every moment with the people you love bc you never know when life can change.
