Newest Addition

I'm kind of embarrassed to admit that in the 10 years I've been out of my parents house, I've never bought a piano. Dancing, a mission, work, and kids always got in the way. While I was pregnant with Brooklyn I started realizing how much I missed playing the piano everyday, so I started saving up. It was pretty crowded in our little condo, so since we've moved I've been seriously looking for a piano. My mom and I have been looking on KSL for a used piano with no luck. This week I saw that Riverton music was having a liquidation sale so I decided to check it out. My parents came with me and after going back and forth between Riverton Music and the Piano Gallery, we found "the one." As soon as we saw it I knew I was going to take it home. Since I was trained on my parent's Baldwin grand piano, I absolutely love how Baldwins feel and sound. The salesman I had started working with ended up with his wife in the hospital to have a baby, so we were lucky to work with the owner of the store the rest of the week. He gave us an incredible deal that was within my budget. The piano was supposed to go to a school this year, but when it was delivered they sent it back wanting a grand piano. So this piano has never been used, eventhough we got it at the used price. And the best part is that I will be able to upgrade to a grand piano and they will trade this piano in and give me what I paid for it to go towards the upgrade. Pretty sweet deal, since I plan to get a grand piano at some point. N-e way, I love everything about this piano - the color, the touch, the sound...everything. Isn't it pretty?!

One of the BEST things that I have never seen before is the new practice bar they attach to the middle pedal. I've always thought of the middle pedal as being like the appendix of the body - I'm sure it serves some function, but not sure what that is and I could certainly do without it. Well now it serves a great purpose. You can lock the pedal in the down position and it mutes the entire piano. It's awesome. I can pound on the piano and it sounds like I am barely touching the keys. This will come in very handy as I will be able to play while the kids are sleeping and my pounding won't wake them up.

The kids, in the meantime, also love the piano. I'm not sure what I'm going to do to keep the kids away from it. I don't want to be extreme, as I want music to be a part of my kids' lives, but I also want to keep my piano in great condition. Brayden loves to sit on the bench with me while I play and he also loves to sit and play by himself. He has always been drawn to music, so I'm hoping he'll continue to develop a love for it. Brooklyn also loves to sit on my lap and play. She's the one I'm worried about. Brayden already knows he has to wash his hands, that he can't bang on the piano, and doesn't touch it without asking me first. Brooklyn, on the other hand, loves to break all those rules. I'm thinking I'll have to buy some sort of cover for now to keep her from getting too close. We'll see. Here's Brayden playing and singing Mickey Mouse. So cute!
